I Have an Adult Job

Yes, I’ve been MIA for weeks, but now it would seem I’ve finally gotten my life in order. I’ve gotten myself a big-person job! I’ll admit I was starting to wonder if I’d made a mistake moving up to Jersey, having been here for nearly two months with no real job prospects (but a fabulous apartment, anyway), and I know my parents were feeling the same way. A couple of weeks ago, however, I went to a job fair and ran into a representative from Morgan Stanley, who ended up calling me for an interview. The first part of that took about an hour and a half of talking, mostly with him detailing the job responsibilities and asking me questions such as “What is something you created that you’re extremely proud of?” and “Tell me about a time when you didn’t complete something you meant to complete, and that you now regret.” It was actually very interesting to discuss such things with him, and I managed to pass that portion of the interview process. I came in the next morning for a two-hour economics-type math exam - about which, let’s be honest, I was shitting myself - and then a personality test, and afterwards he told me that the job was mine if I wanted it, and that he would be sending me a formal job offer once the obligatory background check had been completed. I’m going to be a financial analyst, who basically tells rich people how to best control their assets, from retirement funds and stock portfolios to arranging college funds for their children. It sounds like an amazing opportunity, and I’m really looking forward to starting on Monday save for one thing: I have to start getting up at six-thirty, seven in the morning to be at work for half eight. That’ll be a lifestyle change for sure. No more ‘night owl’ Ingy, but I suppose that’s all a part of growing up.
