Slacking Off? I Wish!

I’ve become a slacker again with regard to this blog, and I’m sorry about that. Things have been pretty crazy at work lately, including the big launch last month and one of our biggest shows last week that had me traveling halfway across the country to Denver, Colorado.

When I originally set up a blog, I did so in order to keep in touch with my friends while I was over in Scotland for university. I was actually very good at updating every day, sometimes multiple times - anything to put off writing essays. The blogging continued on a regular basis until I joined the marketing team here at the office. I think, really, I’m more likely to blog when my days are less busy. That makes sense, I suppose, though one might argue that it’s those busy days that make the blog posts the most interesting.

I continue this blog as a method of connecting to my friends, both here in the States and over in Europe, and my sporadic posting parallels my cell phone activity: most of the time, I tend not to make calls or even answer the phone. Not because I don’t want to talk to you, mind you, but because, well, I just am not a phone person.

This blog is meant to be my email updates, with stories about my life, my job, what’s going on with me. And honestly, I need to get better at it.  I do enjoy blogging when I get back into the habit.

Michelle Kasprzak wrote an interesting post on why people blog. If you’ve got a few minutes, you should take a look.

They Found Me!

A couple of months ago I wrote an entry relating to Santa’s “ho, ho, ho” thing and its banning in Sydney, which of course drifted into a tongue-in-cheek rant about feminism. Upon checking Technorati the other day, which is the dominant search engine and link tracker for blogs, I was surprised to find that this blog had already been discovered by a self-proclaimed feminist on the women-powered BlogHer.com. Though it may not have been utterly complimentary to me (and my last name was listed as “Caitlin,” something I’ve had to deal with all my life for whatever reason), I still feel proud about my post because, let’s be honest, the key to a good blog post is its ability to trigger healthy discussion. Anyway, you can read Suzanne’s entry, “Slut, Slut, Slut! Merry Xmas!,” on the BlogHer website. Thanks for the shout-out, Suzanne! And no offense was meant by my attempt at a humorous entry.

It doesn’t matter now, regardless.  The idea was shot down - it originally stemmed from the thought that blurting out “ho, ho, ho” had the potential to scare little kids - and Santa can keep up his old habits.

I Love OverheardInNewYork.com

“I’m sorry, were you talking to me? It’s loud inside my head.”

I’m spending some time surfing the ‘net this morning, as the big boss man is out of the office and I’ve done what I’ve had to do this morning. So it’s all good.

Tween girl #1: So, like, apparently my brother is engaged.
Tween girl #2: Really? Since when?
Tween girl #1: I dunno, found out at breakfast this morning.
Tween girl #2: Didn’t he, like, just finish high school?
Tween girl #1: Yeah, but she’s, like, still 17 and she’s got a two year old so she’s way worse off than him.
Tween girl #2: Well, is it his kid?
Tween girl #1: Who knows? He’s not tellin’.
Tween girl #2: Probably is … what a man-ho slut wedder.

Best. Label. Ever.

By the way, there is an extremely poignant post on Beauty and the Beltway from October 25 that I definitely recommend you to read.

“This was my choice, my answer, this was the only thing that would make the pain stop for me and for everyone that I had hurt …”
